Angelo Dimatteo

Angelo DiMatteo, 71, of Kensington, Connecticut, entered into heaven surrounded by his loving family on June 10, 2025. Born on January 27, 1954 in Guardia Lombardi, Avellino, Italy, he immigrated to the United States as a child and resided in Elizabeth, New Jersey before moving to Connecticut with his family. Angelo spent much of his young adult life living in New Britain, in a neighborhood surrounded by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, before moving to Kensington. In his later years, he enjoyed time as a group home member with his friends from the Central Connecticut Arc Inc. (CCARC), a non-profit organization for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Angelo was a treasured member of the CCARC for forty years. Known for his gentle and friendly demeanor, he loved attending day program, where he diligently delivered the mail and enjoyed making artwork alongside friends and staff members. He was also a lover of the outdoors, and always embraced an opportunity to take a trip to the beach, go fishing, or ride his bike. Angelo's active nature was also reflected earlier in his life, and led him to many accomplishments. He was a proud participant of the Special Olympics and earned gold, silver, and bronze medals in a variety of track events. Angelo's warm, gregarious spirit was deeply rooted in his care for others and his zest for life. He found true joy in life's simplest pleasures—whether it was a lively conversation with friends and family, or a big plate of homemade pasta and meatballs with a tall glass of chocolate milk. His joyful outlook left a lasting impression on those around him, and it's that very spirit that continues to ground and guide his loved ones today.

Angelo was predeceased by his father, Gaetano DiMatteo, and is survived by his mother, Filomena (Riccio) DiMatteo. He is also survived by his sister, Angela (DiMatteo) Campagna, his greatest advocate and supporter, and her husband John. Angelo also leaves behind his niece, Jenna (Campagna) Bingham and her husband Christopher, his nephew, David Campagna and fiancée Rachael Dempsey. Angelo is also survived by his uncle, Angelo Riccio and his wife Geraldine (Popoli) of Eastchester, New York, and his aunts, Mary (DiPietro) DiMatteo of Berlin, Connecticut, and Maria (Damiano) DiMatteo, of Farmington, Connecticut. Angelo also treasured his many cousins and their children.
