Andrew B. Devokaitis, 65, of Rocky Hill, husband of Judy Devokaitis, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005. Born in New Britain, he served as an Altar Boy at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church during his younger years while living in New Britain. He graduated from New Britain High School in 1957 and CCSU in 1966. He was a Southington resident before moving to Rocky Hill in 2004. Andrew was formerly employed as a teacher at Hatton and DePaolo Schools in Southington from 1966 to 1997 before retiring. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. With his positive outlook on life, Andrew was an avid golfer, skier, and UCONN Women's Basketball fan. He was a loyal Yankee fan, comic book lover, and served as a volunteer reader for CRIS radio. In addition to his wife Judy, he is survived by his mother, Ann Andrews Devokaitis of New Britain; a sister, Susan Devokaitis and her husband Charles Weedon of Pomfret; a brother, Michael Devokaitis of Vernon; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jane and Bruce Stevens of Portland, their children, Sarah of Cromwell, Mike and his wife Heather of Berlin; a nephew, Marc Devokaitis of Boston; a niece, Emily Weedon of Washington DC; and several other aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Benedict Devokaitis. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St. New Britain. Burial, with military honors, will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Calling hours are Wednesday evening from 4-7 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to MADD, 511 E.
