Alma Jean Anderson, 92 formerly of New Britain and Plainville, died Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Glastonbury Healthcare Center. She was the widow of Elmer Anderson. Alma Jean was born September 29, 1918 in Lansing, Michigan to parents Herbert and Ethel Salmon. She moved to Plainville in her childhood and graduated from Plainville High School. A long-time resident of New Britain, she was an active member of First Lutheran Church of the Reformation in New Britain and served on the Altar Guild for many years. She was formerly employed at the Savings Bank of New Britain from 1962 until her retirement in 1987. In her retirement years, many of her days were spent devotedly caring for her friends and relatives in their later years. At the time of her passing her residence was the Glastonbury Health Care Center, where she resided for several years. She is survived by four children, Arvid Anderson (Marianne) of Shelton, James Anderson (Carmenza) of Boynton Beach, Florida, Bruce Anderson (Dorothy) of Glastonbury, Jean Anderson Gill (Wayne Gill) of Omaha, Nebraska. Also surviving are a sister, Hazel Nelson of Farmington, brothers James Salmon of Bristol and Earl Salmon of Hilton Head, South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Ellen, Susan, Michael, Scott, Kristen, Ken, Rachel, Micah, and Marissa; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Ethel Salmon, and son Mark Anderson. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5-7 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main Street, New Britain. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
