OBITUARY: Alfred L. Giancola with picture Alfred L. Giancola, 80, of Lexington St., New Britain, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002. He was the beloved husband of Rita Lemieux Giancola. Born in Franklin, MA, he was the son of the late John and Maria Pecci Giancola. He was a New Britain resident since 1947. Al retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, having served for 22 years. He was also formerly employed at General Dynamics and at New Britain General Hospital. He was a Member of St. Mary Church and was a Master Mason, belonging to the Masonic Lodge in Waterbury. In addition to his wife, Rita, he is survived by three sons, Michael Giancola of New Britain, Dino Giancola of East Falmouth, Cape Cod, and Kevin Giancola of Canton; two daughters, Janice Angel of Kensington and Debi Russo of CAL.; a sister, Kay Podsiadlo and her husband Walter of CAL.; sixteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Al was a distinguished man of character and was loved by all. ''We will miss you dad. Me too, honey.'' Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Church. Burial, with military honors, will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Calling hours will be Sunday from 1-3 PM and 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
