Alejandro Aponte Sr.

Alejandro Aponte, Sr., 91, of New Britain, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. He was the loving husband of Paula (Rosario) Aponte, to whom he was married for over 71 years.

He was born in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico and moved to New Britain with his wife. He worked at Macristy Industries for many years as a loyal employee.

In addition to his wife, Paula, Alejandro is survived by his son, Alexander Jr. and his fiancée Maria Carmen Almaguer, and his daughters, Sondra Aponte-Garcia and her fiancé Nelson Casillas, and Awilda Johnson and her husband Ken. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: AmandaLee Aponte (Jonathan Stroh) of Manchester, Alexander Aponte III (Kristina) of West Hartford, William Johnson of Hartford, Marisa Johnson of St. Augustine, FL, and Elliot Garcia (fiancée Krista DeTulio) of New Britain. He will be greatly missed by many friends and extended family members who loved him.

Alejandro was well known for his "green thumb", his culinary skills, his love for fishing as well as his passion for playing dominoes. He was also a faithful communicant at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in New Britain.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 9, 2025 from 9-10 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main Street, New Britain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 544 Main Street, New Britain, at 10:30 am, with entombment to take place at St. Mary's Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
