Alden G Westover, 77, of North Franklin, CT sadly passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2023. He was born July 26th, 1946, in Bloomsburg, PA to the late Alden and Alice (Ruckert) Westover.
Alden grew up in Chappaqua, NY attending Horace Greely High School and created many life long friendships while there. After high school Alden was drafted into the Vietnam War serving our country for several years. After the service Alden attended college at CW Post in Long Island where his craft and love for art started to grow. He was extremely talented, saving many of his unique art projects throughout his life. After college Alden held many different careers landing him from Boston to NJ until finally ending up in Moosup, CT working as a purchaser for Leslie & Elliot in Dayville, CT. Alden then met his wife, Christine and started a beautiful family in their lovely home on the hill filled with love and laughter and where memories were abundant.
He had a love for the outdoors and could often find him on his front porch, or in the cabin he had built in his backyard. He would spend much of his free time there, bird watching, storm watching, or just up to tell a feel-good story. After living in Moosup for some years he started a new venture, Waurgan Wood in Wauregan, CT. He was very talented at restoring antique furniture and making the “old” look new again. After Alden retired, he moved to North Franklin, CT. Alden was an amazing father to his two children, Kate and Scott. He was there for every life event and was always there to lend an ear and offer the best advice.
Alden cherished his family and friends. Words that are often used to describe him are gentle, funny and one of the best story tellers anyone has ever had the pleasure to meet.
Alden is survived by his daughter, Kate Westover and her Husband Mark Fournier of New Britain, CT. His son, Scott Gaumond and his wife Marina of Vancouver, BC, CA. His sister, Barabara Valentino and her husband Joe of Port St Lucie, FL along with his nephew, Paul Foss and many beloved cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at DaVita in Norwich. Also, his caretaker for the past 5 years, Guirlaine Charles fondly known as “GiGi” for taking such great care of him.
There will be a Celebration of Life held for Alden in the Spring.
