A TIME TO BE BORN
Sis. Addie Lee Brown was born on August 7, 1935 to the late Counts Eagleton & Tillor (Smalls) Eagleton, in Richmond, VA. She was the youngest of five children. She received her education in the Florence, South Carolina School System. In 1952, Sis. Brown received her High School diploma from Gibbs High School in Pamlico, South Carolina. She met the love of her life, Mr. Herbert Hoover Brown in 1953 and married later that year. The two “ love birds” relocated from the South to the North, making Connecticut their home. To this union they welcomed three children: Doris, Herbert and Darnell.
A TIME TO TEAR DOWN AND A TIME TO BUILD
Sis. Brown grew up at Mt. Rona Baptist Church in Florence County, SC where she served as an usher and sang in the choir. Later she moved her membership to Bethesda Apostolic Church in 1957 where she was baptized in the name of Jesus and received the gift of the Holy Ghost under the leadership of Elder John P. Shaw. She served in many capacities including the Usher Board, Missionary Auxiliary, Young Peoples ’ Department, and she was the chairperson of the Bethesda Home Missions until her health declined. She was one of the mothers of the church as well as one of the last original members. Sis. Brown was a woman of faith, she would testify about God ’ s healing, and all that the Lord had done for her. Sis. Brown would praise God like it was her last time.
Sis. Brown was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband of 70 years, Herbert Hoover Brown; her son, Herbert Allen Brown of New Britain, CT; two granddaughters: Arcola Bowden of Bristol, CT, and Shakieta D. Wadsworth of Norfolk, VA; a grandson, Darnell O. Brown of New Jersey; two great-grandchildren: Tia Brown and Buddy Devaughn Bowden; a sister, Cola Mangham of Manhattan, NY; one sister-in-law, Direthia Eagleton of Clayton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and a loving Bethesda Church family.
A TIME TO LAUGH AND A TIME TO WEEP
Sis. Brown loved to travel, she would travel to the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Annual Convention in various states. Family was very important to her, she strongly believed in keeping everyone united and no one person was less important than the next, she loved everyone the same. As a main mission, she felt the importance that her five siblings and their children visited and remained connected with each other very frequently. Sis. Brown was a classy woman who loved to dress nicely, keeping her hair done, and looking her absolute best! She loved cooking, baking, and sharing her food with anyone who knew her.
A TIME TO PLANT AND A TIME TO PLUCK THAT WHICH IS PLANTED
She had a personal knack for kids and babysitting. She cared for many children through the years, providing a safe and nurturing place in her home for children to grow.
Sis. Brown not only loved her family and friends, she also loved her Bethesda Apostolic Church family. She was known as the “ Avon Lady ” through the years at Bethesda. She would bring bags full of orders to the church week after week. She was the one-stop-shop for Avon products. She had a warm heart and caring spirit. She opened her home, would provide transportation for those who wanted to attend service, and always made a point to connect with her church family. Sis. Brown has left a lasting mark on Bethesda, and her impact will live on.

Addie Brown peacefully transitioned at the age of 87 surrounded by her loved ones, Herbert Brown, and Arcola Bowden, on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 1:30AM at Bel-Air Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
